School Closings / Delays
ALL BUILDINGS AFFECTED

According to the most current Bay Area Air Quality Management District’s air alert, the northern CA wildfire in Butte County is continuing to cause unpredictable air quality levels throughout the Bay Area. As the fire has continued to be active with only partial containment, our unhealthy air quality levels have persisted throughout the week. As a result, our schools have been following our limited outdoor activity protocol since Friday, November 9th. This has included modifying daily activity that would otherwise be conducted outdoors, such as moving physical education classes, lunch activities, recess, outdoor rallies, sporting events, etc., to indoor facilities, or in some cases, cancellation of activities. We have also turned off our heating and ventilation systems at school sites to limit air exposure, which has resulted in lower than normal temperatures in classrooms.

The health and welfare of our students and staff continues to be our top priority.

Due to the persisting air quality conditions, and out of an abundance of caution, we have determined that our schools will be closed tomorrow, Friday, November 16th.

While we are following the Air Quality Forecast, we will also be actively monitoring conditions in Millbrae and all local areas of our schools. If conditions change, we will post an update and communicate with our schools to ensure our community remains informed.

Please visit www.SMCOE.org for more information and www.airnow.gov to monitor air quality and appropriate activities.

We will monitor the air quality and keep our school community updated throughout the weekend.

Kind regards,

Vahn Phayprasert
Superintendent
